چکیده

A new impedance boundary condition method for calculating the series impedance of lossy quasi-TEM transmission lines is presented. Previous techniques using a more standard impedance boundary condition are typically limited to high frequency where the impedance boundary conditions can be easily approximated due to its localized characteristics in that limit. The new impedance boundary condition, referred to as the effective internal impedance (EII) produces values that are relatively localized (independent of the presence of other conductors) from low to high frequency, allowing the relatively simpler surface impedance of an isolated conductor to be used as an approximation of the EII. #: current address: Intel Corporation, 2111 NE 25th Ave, M/S: JF1-207, Hillsboro, OR 97124 *: current address: Monterey Design Systems, 894 Ross Drive, Suite 200 Sunnyvale, CA 94089-1443 corresponding author: Dean P. Shielding Effectiveness of a Lossy Metallic Enclosure

In this paper, shielding effectiveness (SE) of a perforated enclosure with imperfectly conducting walls is evaluated. To this end, first, an accurate numerical technique based on method of Moments (MoM) ispresented. In this method, lossy metallic walls of the enclosure are replaced by equivalent electric surfacecurrent sources. Then, the impedance boundary condition on the imperfectly conductin...

A Note on the Modeling of Transmission-Line Losses

We consider uniform lossy transmission lines characterized by their primary parameters. Exact and approximate formulas for the characteristic impedance and propagation coefficient are reviewed and discussed for low-loss lines. Approximating the characteristic impedance by its real part can lead to erroneous results for the input impedance of shortand open-circuited stubs. This problem is analyt...

Scattering from Loaded Grooves

Electromagnetic scattering from a two-dimensional groove recessed in an arbitrarily thick conducting screen is studied. The groove may be empty or loaded with a lossy material which may or may not completely fill the cavity. For the partially loaded groove, the filling material is assumed electrically dense so that the standard impedance boundary condition is applicable at the top surface of th...

Fault Location on Compensated Transmission Lines without Current Measurement

This paper presents a novel fault location method for series compensated transmission lines. It is established based on synchronized voltages sampling and Thevenin impedance from both ends of series compensated transmission line. The method is based on the use of phasor measurement units (PMU) technology which is aimed to be independent of current measurements, fault type, fault resistance, fau...

Lossy Spherical Cavity Resonators for Stress-Testing Arbitrary 3D Eigenmode Solvers

A lossy metal-wall cavity resonator that extends well beyond perturbation theory limits is studied. An exact analytical solution is employed for the spherical cavity resonator, having walls transformed from being a perfect electrical conductor (PEC) to free space. This model then acts as an ideal benchmark reference standard. A plane-wave approximation is then derived. Independent full-wave num...
